MULTIPLICITY:  This project was to use multiple images (at least 3-5) of a character to tell a story. It was technically challenging, because the masking and adjustment layers had to be precise to make the editing match visually.  The requirements included layer masks, adjustment layers, clipping masks, and more. The project also required a "gif" of the work process. I chose to do two images to tell two different stories of the female character. My character is a woman at a crossroads.  The inspirations for this photo were portraits of Georgia O'Keefe in the desert by the genius Ansel Adams.  I was looking for minimalism, full tones of the "zone system," and the feel of isolation, loneliness, and loss.  These portraits also utilized an interesting dynamic of the subject in the foreground, which I tried to replicate in the first image, especially.
This image was my first choice for submission. It communicates her isolation, confusion, abandonment, and emptiness. It also hearkens to determination with the character not waiting, taking action, and moving forward no matter what. She is a focused woman, despite the mysterious situation.  I also wanted the setting itself to be a character in the story, so the setting of the train tracks and abandoned weigh station supplies the perfect scene for the lost character. In keeping with the Ansel Adams inspiration, I wanted to utilize the foreground for one image to communicate tension and strength of the character.
All images were shot by me for this project.
